For the second consecutive year, I was commissioned to design the Annual Clinical Report for the Women’s & Children’s Managed Clinical and Academic Network (MCAN) within the Saolta University Health Care Group.
This comprehensive publication documents the clinical activities of Women’s and Children’s Services across five key hospital sites:
- Galway University Hospital
- Letterkenny University Hospital
- Mayo University Hospital
- Portiuncula University Hospital
- Sligo University Hospital
The report covers essential services in:
- Maternity care
- Gynaecology
- Paediatrics (general and subspecialties)
- Neonatology
Design Strategy
The design focused on clarity, structure, and visual cohesion, ensuring that complex data could be easily understood by a wide range of stakeholders. Key design elements included:
- A clean, modern cover design using a white background and Saolta’s signature blue and green, featuring photography of women across different life stages to reflect the spectrum of care provided.
- A custom colour-coding system for each hospital, enabling easy identification of site-specific data across charts and tables, while maintaining brand consistency using Saolta’s colour palette.
- An interactive table of contents for the web version, allowing seamless navigation.
- A chapter marker system—a coloured box at the top outer corner of each page— to clearly indicate the beginning of each new section and improve user orientation.
This project highlights my ability to translate detailed healthcare content into a clear, accessible, and professional publication—balancing data visualisation, brand consistency, and user-friendly design.
